USOF ELECTIONS 2008

BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND OFFICERS

The Road to USOF's Annual General Meeting (AGM) ...

... It started out being paved with good intentions. First there was an e-mail about the USOF Board Elections and the need for candidates. Then there was an article "Time To Be A Change Agent" on page 15 of the April issue of Orienteering North America. The basic theme of the article was:

The growth, success and viability of all organizations depend upon the participation and support of every single person in the organization. Here at USOF, we cannot afford to have folks standing on the sidelines while a small group of faithful folks do all the work year in and year out.

In addition, the article spelled out the need for the USOF Board Candidate slate to be in place by April 30th to allow other timeline activities leading up to the AGM to be completed.

The Regional Election for the Pacific Region has been completed and the Northeast Region reports progress in the planning phase. The Heartland Region, at this point, has been completely silent about where it stands with the elections.

I am sorry to report that there is a very large bump in the road regarding Officer and At-Large Candidates for the positions listed below.

POSITION INCUMBENTS

POSITION INCUMBENT, Club
Administration VP Frank H. Kuhn, DVOA
Marketing & PR VP Jerry Rhodes, CROC
Club Services VP Gary Kraght, BAOC
At-Large Member Stephanie Martineau, MNOC

With Jerry Rhodes and Stephanie Martineau having confirmed that they will definitely not stand for election, we have a very serious situation facing us.

It behooves Regional Nominating Committee Members, Board Members and ALL other USOF Members to immediately assume the responsibility for identifying candidates and securing their willingness to stand for election.

With the limited number of folks on the USOFClubnet, it is imperative that you spread the word about the need for candidates in your Club Newsletters and Web sites. Our goal is to have at least two qualified candidates for each of the four positions at the start of the AGM on Saturday, August 9th at 3 PM [note new location:]

Hilton Garden Inn/Univ. of Wyoming Conference Center
2229 East Grand Ave. (corner 22nd and Grand)
[Exit 316 off I-80]
Laramie, WY 82070
Telephone: 307-745-5500

Candidate information needs to be sent to me ASAP at tbaukuhn@aol.com so that I can have the ballots prepared and printed with the names of the known candidates by July 31st.

In addition to the announced candidates on the ballot, nominations may be made from the floor at the AGM, provided such candidates have agreed to allow their names to be placed in nomination and have been a USOF member for at least one year.

Thank you for taking the actions that will ensure there is a viable USOF in the future!!!
