USOF Junior Development GrantsThe USOF Junior Development Grant Committee is pleased to announce the initial grant recipients for 2008. Kennesaw High School (Kennesaw, GA, a suburb of Atlanta) is awarded $300 for equipment purchase, Louisville Orienteering Club is awarded $872 to support junior outreach during an 8-week sprint series, and Channelview High School (Channelview, TX, a suburb of Houston) is awarded $3200 for junior travel to the Laramie Daze orienteering festival and U.S. Classic Distance Championships. The good news is that the USOF Junior Development Grant Fund still has money left in the 2008 budget. All USOF member and clubs are encouraged to submit proposals. If you have an idea for the recruitment, retention, training or development of competitive juniors that needs some money to make it happen, this is your opportunity! Here is a recap of the original announcement: Any USOF club, USOF group (such as the Junior Team), or USOF member is welcome to apply for a junior development grant. To apply, send your grant proposal to the Junior Development Grant Committee, c/o Gary Kraght at gkraght@ffic.com. The initial deadline for grant proposal consideration is March 31, 2008, with grants to be awarded by the end of April. Grant proposals received after that deadline will still be considered, either for 2008 or 2009. More than one grant proposal may be submitted. Grants are for one year, and can be renewed on a yearly basis. Grants are intended for the development of groups of juniors – no grants for individual juniors will be considered. Each grant proposal must contain the following elements:
Remember that the purpose of the junior development grants is to develop competitive U.S. junior orienteers. Possible activities might be junior training camps, youth leagues, coaching. But don't limit your imagination to this list! Junior recruitment, development, and retention activities at all ages and levels will be considered, from preteens to college. If in doubt, send in your proposal. You are welcome to send queries to the Junior Development Grant Committee at any time, c/o Gary Kraght (gkraght [at] ffic [dot] com).
